Potty Training When Traveling With a Child

By thevine On May 29, 2010 Under Uncategorized

It’s not necessary to stop toilet training even when you’re on a trip. You just need to do some advance planning.

Don’t overlook your youngster’s standalone potty seat. If your child needs it your youngster can use his or her potty seat in the car. Be sure to bring inserts or small plastic bags for lining the potty seat. You’ll make things much easier on yourself when you try to clean up.

Be sure to pack paper or wipes for your toddler, too. Bring whatever it is she uses at home. Children can be fussy enough on a long car trip without having to get used to new things.

Have your toddler wear one of the many disposable training pants that are on the market. If your toddler has an accident, the car seat and their clothes will stay clean and dry.

Do your best to limit fluids when you’re traveling. You want to maintain hydration while doing your best to make sure your toddler doesn’t have a potty accident because you couldn’t find a place to pull over.

There are rest areas along most major US highways.  You should stop often so your toddler can use the bathroom. Just bring the toddler’s potty seat in to the restroom with you. Don’t be surprised if your child is afraid in the strange place.  Having his or her own potty seat will help a lot.

Also, it is normal for there to be potty training problems during periods of high stress or travel. If your child has more accidents than they did at home, try to be a little easier on them.

You can work on resuming the normal potty schedule when you reach your destination. Any regression will probably disappear when you get home and back into your normal routines.
